Vancouver Canucks goalie Ryan Miller practiced Friday for the first time since he sustained a groin injury almost six weeks ago.
Miller, who was injured Feb. 22 against the New York Islanders when teammate Jannik Hansen crashed into him, is not ready to return to game action, coach Willie Desjardins told the Canucks website after practice in Winnipeg."It's exciting to finally get back, even if it's just practicing and going to meetings," Miller said. "At home, I've been around the rink and being a part of everything I can be a part of, but it's tough, guys are in game mode and are making the push here, so I try to stay out of their way.
"So it's nice to just be back in the locker room and feel like I'm a part of everything, especially this great time of year."
General manager Jim Benning said he hopes to have Miller back before the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin April 15. Vancouver (45-28-5) are second in the Pacific Division.
"We'll just go day to day with him and see where he's at," Benning told Sportsnet. "Hopefully he can get into a game or two at the end of the season here."
In his first season with the Canucks, Miller is 28-15-1 with a 2.47 goals against average and .913 save percentage.
Vancouver plays the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday (3 p.m. ET; NHLN-US, SNP, TSN3) and will have three games remaining.
