Season series: The San Jose Sharks will be looking to even things up at two games apiece after earning a 5-1 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Feb. 5. The Canucks won two games in San Jose earlier this season.

Sharks team scope: San Jose ended a three-game losing streak and an eight-game home skid Monday when it earned a 4-0 victory against the Montreal Canadiens at SAP Center. Antti Niemi is expected to get the start in Vancouver after Alex Stalock made 20 saves Monday. Right wing Ben Smith, who was acquired earlier in the day from the Chicago Blackhawks, scored and had an assist in his Sharks debut. He had nine points in 61 games prior to the trade. "There was an energy to the team that we haven't seen in a while. I think some of that had to do with Ben Smith coming in and scoring right off the bat," coach Todd McLellan said. "He energized everybody. It's one game and we're pleased."

Canucks team scope: Vancouver general manager Jim Benning made a couple of tweaks to his roster at the NHL Trade Deadline on Monday, acquiring forward Cory Conacher from the New York Islanders for forward Dustin Jeffrey, and forward Sven Baertschi from the Calgary Flames for a second-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. "We now have a group of good, young, fast, skilled players that will be our foundation going forward," Benning said. "When we show up and compete, we can beat anyone in this League. This is our way of telling our players, 'Let's see what we can do here.'" The Canucks, who have won three of their past four games, recalled goaltender Jacob Markstrom, forward Ronalds Kenins and defenseman Adam Clendening from Utica of the American Hockey League and reassigned defenseman Alex Biega to Utica on Monday.
