CALGARY - Ontario's Mark Kean has his second win in a row to open the Canadian men's curling championship in Calgary.

Kean, who skips one of the youngest teams in the Tim Hortons Brier, downed former Canadian champion Jean-Michel Menard of Quebec 9-8 in the morning draw.

Northern Ontario's Brad Jacobs and Newfoundland and Labrador's Brad Gushue join Kean at 2-0. Jacobs, who skips the reigning Olympic champions, picked up a 9-5 win over Alberta's Kevin Koe. The host province is winless in their first two games.

Gushue was a 9-7 extra-end winner over Team Canada's John Morris, who is 1-1.

B.C.'s Jim Cotter and New Brunswick's Jeremy Mallais are 1-0 heading into the afternoon draw. Saskatchewan's Steve Laycock is 1-1. The rest of the field is still looking for their first win.
