Christopher Plummer to Take Part in Hand and Foot Ceremony at Chinese Theatre

Christopher Plummer is about to cement his place in Hollywood history.

In preparation for the 50th anniversary celebration of The Sound of Music, Plummer, 85, will participate in a hand and footprint ceremony March 27 outside the TCL Chinese Theatre.

"I'm sending off all sorts of emails. What am I supposed to wear? How do I get my clothes from being ruined? How do we do this? It sounds like the oldest gangster trick," Plummer says jokingly to PEOPLE. "I'm thrilled. I think it's a huge, huge honor, the kind of immortality that you perhaps didn't want, but, God!"

Plummer, together with Julie Andrews, will also participate in the TCM Classic Film Festival that will run March 26 to 29 in Hollywood. The festival will kick off with a screening of The Sound of Music, and the actor memorably played Captain Von Trapp in the 1965 film.

Plummer – who won his first Oscar in 2012 for his supporting role in Beginners – said he's not sure where his cement slab will end up in front of the Chinese – not that he'd ever put in a special location request. "I can't say, I don't want to be next to her or him. That would be very ungracious!"

Recently, Plummer told PEOPLE that Lady Gaga "sang absolutely wonderfully" at last week's Oscar ceremony. He said he didn't participate because the tribute was about Andrews.

"It's her movie," he said.
