CORNER BROOK, N.L. - Alberta's Karsten Sturmay remained perfect at the Canadian junior curling championships Monday after a 4-2 win over Prince Edward Island's Tyler Smith.

Sturmay improved to 4-0 with the win to lead Pool B in the men's competition.

In other early games, defending champ Braden Calvert of Manitoba thumped Nunavut's Kane Komaksiutiksak 21-3, B.C.'s Paul Henderson held off Greg Smith of Newfoundland and Labrador 8-6 and Ontario's Mac Calwell outscored Nova Scotia's Matthew Manuel 11-6.

In women's play, defending champ Kelsey Rocque of Edmonton improved to 4-0 with a 15-3 win over Nunavut's Sadie Pinksen.

Quebec's Emilia Gagne beat Northern Ontario's Krysta Burns 7-3 and Nova Scotia's Mary Fay whipped Newfoundland and Labrador's Sarah Hill 11-3.

Round-robin games are being played at the Corner Brook Civic Centre and the Corner Brook Curling Club.
