Season series: The Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks each have a road win in the first two games. Karri Ramo made 32 saves, and Jiri Hudler scored twice when the Flames won 2-0 at SAP Center on Nov. 26; Antti Niemi responded with 33 saves, and Logan Couture and Justin Braun each had a goal and an assist in the Sharks' 3-2 win at Scotiabank Saddledome on Dec. 6.
Flames team scope: With Ramo on injured reserve, Joni Ortio will start his third consecutive game. Ortio has won two straight since being called up, making 63 saves on 64 shots (.984 save percentage). Forward Curtis Glencross, who left a 4-1 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday with a lower-body injury, didn't practice Friday and is very doubtful to play, according to coach Bob Hartley. Forwards Markus Granlund and Josh Jooris skated in non-contact jerseys. Forward Drew Shore, who impressed in his Flames debut, was on the third line with Mason Raymond and Joe Colborne. "I've been really wanting a fresh start, and I finally got it and am trying to make the most of it," Shore, who played 67 games with the Florida Panthers the past two seasons, told the Calgary Sun.
Sharks team scope: San Jose held an optional skate Friday after opening a seven-game homestand with a 3-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. Forward Patrick Marleau's game-winning goal ended a 16-game drought dating to Dec. 6. Marleau had one assist in his previous 14 games. The Sharks are 9-for-9 on the penalty kill in their past three games. "The last few games, it's been good. It's helped us win games," forward Joe Pavelski said Friday, according to CSNBayArea.com. "[Thursday] it kept that game right where it needed to be. It gives us momentum when we do it right, and if they do score or they get one on it, it's just about getting back to basics and really taking care of it the next one out."
