Not willing to sit and wait for his shot at the welterweight title, UFC president Dana White confirmed via Twitter that Rory MacDonald will see his next action in the UFC octagon against Hector Lombard.
Multiple reports indicate the fight will take place at UFC 186, which will be held at Bell Centre in Montreal, but that has yet to be confirmed by the promotion.
The 25-year-old Canadian is coming off a third-round TKO victory over Tarec Saffiedine at UFC Fight Night 54 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
That victory improved MacDonald's record to 18-2 and was his third victory of 2014 following triumphs over Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia.
It was thought that MacDonald, who was born in Quesnel, British Columbia but fights out of Montreal, was going to face the winner of the title bout between Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks at UFC 181.
However, following that match, the UFC announced that the two combatants would instead fight for a third time, leaving MacDonald waiting for his shot at the belt.
Lombard most recently defeated Josh Burkman at UFC 182 via unanimous decision to up his MMA record to 35-4-1.
