Season series: The Winnipeg Jets and Buffalo Sabres split two games last season, each team winning at home. Buffalo scored the only power-play goal in 13 combined attempts.

Jets team scope: Winnipeg is 7-3-2 against the Eastern Conference after a 4-2 win at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, but they are 1-3-0 against the Atlantic Division. Forward Evander Kane scored twice, his first multigoal game since Jan. 5, 2014 and second since Oct. 13, 2013. Forward Mathieu Perrault, who scored his first two goals of the season in the past week, left the game because of an upper-body injury. Goalie Michael Hutchinson made 32 saves; Ondrej Pavelec is likely to start this game.

Sabres team scope: Buffalo will be trying to win four in a row in regulation for the first time in more than two seasons, since it won five straight from March 19-27, 2012. In wins against the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks and Washington Capitals, the Sabres have outscored the opposition 12-4. "It took us a little while to get our footing down, so right now, I guess the biggest thing is now they feel confidence within their own ability and playing with a lot of confidence," coach Ted Nolan told the Sabres website. Goalie Jhonas Enroth has stopped 72 of 74 shots in the past two wins (.973 save percentage), and forwards Brian Gionta and Tyler Ennis each has four points during the streak. Patrick Kaleta could play center in place of Cody McCormick (concussion protocol); Kaleta, who sustained a jaw injury in the preseason, has played one game this season.
