The NHL is reportedly on the verge of a new five-year deal with its on-ice officials.
According to The Hockey News, the "basis for a deal" has been reached that would extend labour harmony between the league and its on-ice officials for the next five years.
The NHL's referees and linesmen have been working preseason games despite the lack of a new collective bargaining agreement, but the expectation according to the report is that a deal will be reached shortly.
The two-sides last negotiated in 2010, resulting in the four-year pact that elapsed at the end of the 2013-14 season.
