JETS (1-0-0) at SHARKS (1-0-0)
TV: SN360, CSN-CA
Season series: The Winnipeg Jets won two of three games from the San Jose Sharks during the 2013-14 season, including a 4-3 victory in the most recent game on March 27 at SAP Center.
Jets team scope: There was no definitive word Friday on how long forward Evander Kane might be out after he left Winnipeg's season-opening 6-2 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday in the first period with a knee injury, but coach Paul Maurice answered in the negative when asked if he thought Kane might play this weekend. "I would not list him as day-to-day right now and we'll go from there," Maurice said. Forward Michael Frolik didn't skate Friday, but Maurice termed that a maintenance day. Forward Blake Wheeler will look to build off a sizzling performance against Arizona in which he recorded a Gordie Howe Hat Trick, scoring twice, adding an assist and fighting Coyotes captain Shane Doan.
Sharks team scope: An impressive 4-0 road win against the Los Angeles Kings in their opener Wednesday didn't take away the sting from their collapse in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last spring, but it gave San Jose some positive momentum to begin the new season. Center Logan Couture didn't skate Thursday, but it was termed a maintenance day according to the San Jose Mercury News and Couture was back on the ice Friday. The Mercury News reported Couture was disappointed not to be one of the alternate captains named by the Sharks, but coach Todd McLellan didn't see it as an issue. "Logan has been fine. He's dealt with me the way I thought he would. Very professional," McLellan said.
