Re: [SurroundSound] Your favorite multi-channel recordings?

I would put in a couple of choices that I don't think I've seen mentioned.   1) Kraftwerk Minimum Maximum DVD, and 2) Killing Joke 25th anniversary Gathering DVD.   The Kraftwerk one is great to be in the middle of, and the KJ one really packs a punch when you crank it up.

Am looking forward to the new BSS mix being available as a standalone purchase (has it happened yet?). As far as other Steven Wilson stuff, haven't heard it all, but thought "In the Court..." was fantastic, while "Red" seemed to lose some of the power of the original.    First two ELP's pretty darn good also.
If I had an informal request I would make with remixes of old recordings, I'd have them all mixed through old analog quad consoles and only allow analog outboard gear and no digital plugins.   Just because you can add all the sheen and sizzle you want to tracks with all the amazing technology that's available these days, doesn't mean you have to. Also, still don't really think a center speaker is necessary for surround music.

Subject: Re: [SurroundSound] Your favorite multi-channel recordings?

Please excuse my belated reply, I just saw this thread.

"If there was a "Top ten of multichannel recordings of all times" list, how should it look like? And in particular, what would you play to a person that you want to impress, which never experienced music in surround sound?"

I have been impressed by the efforts of Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree fame.  He was picked to do the re-mix for the ELP albums, King Crimson, and Jethro Tull among others.  And all of those albums sounde very good indeed.  Additionally, Porcupine Tree's "In Absentia", "Lightbulb Sun", and "Stupid Dream" sound particularly good to these ears.  I also really like the Grateful Dead's "American Beauty" and "Workingman's Dead", they sound terrific.  Finally, I really like several of Pete Townshend's and the Who's works - "Rough Mix", "Quadrophenia", and "Tommy" are excellent efforts....
