2014 Toronto Film Festival, Operators

TIFF concert party Festival Music House managed to keep a packed house dancing and drinking through to the end of the night on Monday, despite the absence of the show's main draw, The New Pornographers.

The Festival Music House has become a fun tradition at TIFF since it started in 2010 that brings together the often overlapping fans of music and movies. The two-night event started on Sunday with Paper Lions, Bobby Bazini, DIANA, Justin Nozuka and BADBADNOTGOOD. Although The New Pornographers were billed as the headlining act for the second night, veteran Canadian act Sloan took the stage in their place.

The show opened with a set from Vancouver trio We Are The City. Their songs are a surprising mix of stops and starts. They had an incredible energy that was driven forward by the electricity of drummer Andrew Huculiak.

2014 Toronto Film Festival, Lowell

Lowell made sure everyone knew who she was by wearing her name on her chest. Her music is as tight, poppy and professional as acts like Robyn and Ellie Goulding. To close off one of her songs, she sang the wordless hook of Heart of Glass then introduced herself as Blondie with a laugh.

The latest band from Wolf Parade front man Dan Boeckner  Operators took the stage next. Sam Brown introduced the rest of her band members joking while introducing Boeckner, "He's kind of a rookie. We decided to take a chance on him." The band was also supported by a special guest, Dustin Hawthorne of Hot Hot Heat. This is the kind of band that makes you want to be in a band.

2014 Toronto Film Festival, Sloan

The main act of the night, Sloan came on stage just after 11pm and quickly made people remember why they have been a formidable Canadian act for over 20 years. The band took the crowd through the back catalogue and played all of the hits that a one hour set would allow like The Other Man, The Good In Everyone and Money City Maniacs.

The night closed off with a not surprisingly incredible set from A Tribe Called Red that had the whole crowd dancing allowing with the First Nation performer on stage. They have earned a reputation as the most innovative new act in Canadian dance music and are a must see for in the know.

Although TIFF A-listers Jon Stewart, Rosario Dawson and Chris Rock may have been partying at the Soho House down the street, the show brought out musical talent like Kevin Drew and Nat Motte from 3OH!3, solidifying the party as a must attend for the musical set. The party exposes some of Canada's best musical talent to, they hope, film music supervisors. Or at least people who know those people.
