{allcanada} TIFF Launches With Al Pacino Fundraising Gala

2014 Toronto Film Festival, Al Pacino, TIFF Launches With Al Pacino Fundraising Gala

Al Pacino was the godfather of the gala last night at the first Toronto International Film Festival event their kick-off fundraiser. Attendees that were up to pony up $1500 per person for an invite got a special Q & A with the legendary star. The conversation touched on his path to fame, his relationship with his often-absent father and what his goals are for the future.

"When your eighth grade teacher comes up to your grandmother, six stories high in a tenement building, and says to your grandmother, 'watch this kid and keep him acting,' you get a little confidence," he told the crowd.

Pacino stars in two movies at TIFF this year, The Humbling and Manglehorn, both about an aging men who get new leases on life through love and friendship.

Other famous attendees of the gala included Kelly Rowan (The O.C., Perception), Norman Jewison (In The Heat of the Night, The Hurricane), Kristin Booth (Orphan Black), Piper Perabo (Looper, The Prestige) and Sara Gadon (Cosmopolois, Maps to the Stars).

Al Pacino then headed up town with his girlfriend for dinner at Opus.

The opening night film, The Judge starring Robert Downey Jr. will launch the festival tonight.
