{allcanada} Senators' MacLean happy with team's fitness level

Ottawa Senators coach Paul MacLean found the silver lining in his team missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season.

"The only fortunate thing that came from our season last year was the opportunity for us to really get to the gym early and upgrade the fitness level of our team," he told reporters Friday. "The vast majority of our players have done that and that's a good sign for us that we took advantage of the time we had and feel good about it."

MacLean spoke to the media prior to the team leaving for Newfoundland. The Senators open the preseason with two games against the New York Islanders on Sept. 22 in St. John's, Newfoundland.
