MLSE may not be the only hope for the Toronto Argonauts moving forward.
According to a report from the Toronto Star, Argonauts owner David Braley – who also owns the BC Lions – says there are two new potential buyers for the Argonauts.
Braley said he was approached two weeks ago by a potential buyer looking to set the Argos up as a not-for-profit organization, a model similar to the ones used successfully by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Edmonton Eskimos, according to the report.
The report states the second offer came in six months ago.
The Argos' future has been uncertain for some time. It was thought MLSE would buy the club and move them to BMO Field, contributing $90 million to make the stadium suitable for football. That plan was nixed, or at least delayed, after federal and provincial funding - $10 million each – never came through.
Braley said he still wants the Argos, who's lease at the Rogers Centre runs out after the 2017 season, to move to BMO Field.
