{allcanada} Premiere: Diana Krall covers 'Desperado'

Diana Krall may have won Grammys for her jazz recordings, but she shows serious pop chops on her cover of Desperado, premiering at USA TODAY.

Inspired by Linda Ronstadt, one of her parents' favorite performers, Krall displays tender affection for the song and its fence rider, a subtle rasp sneaking into her voice as she sings about betting on the queen of hearts.

Ronstadt recorded the Glenn Frey/Don Henley piano ballad for her 1973 album Don't Cry Now after the Eagles had made it the title track of their second album earlier that year.

Desperado is one of two Eagles songs Krall covers on Wallflower album, Oct. 21 from Verve Music Group. She remakes the group's 1980 hit I Can't Tell You Why, as well as tunes by Bob Dylan, Elton John, Jim Croce and others. The album includes a new song from Paul McCartney called I Can't Tell You Why and duets with Bryan Adams, Michael Bublé and Blake Mills.

Krall will begin her Wallflower World Tour Nov. 7 at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix.
