KARUIZAWA, Japan - Canada leads defending champion South Korea by two strokes going into the final round of the Women's World Amateur Team Championship golf tournament.
Brooke Henderson, the 16-year-old star from Smiths Falls, Ont., shot a 6-under 66 and Brittany Marchand of Orangeville shot a 3-under 69 to keep Canada in first place.
"It was a great day today," Henderson said. "I'm really excited for tomorrow and really excited to be in the position that we're in at such a beautiful golf course in beautiful Japan."
Canada's trio of Henderson, Marchand and Augusta James of Bath, Ont., has a total score of 23-under-par 409, the second-best in the history of the tournament through 54 holes.
Korea, which has won the past two years, posted a tournament-best 134 to pass Japan to get into second place.
Canada has never won the Women's World Amateur Team Championship but has been the runner-up three times, in 2004, 1978 and 1966.
"I think it's great for us to come out and show the world what we're made of," Marchand said. "In the past we might not have been a force but definitely a force now."
Japan is six strokes back of Canada, while Australia trails by seven.
