{allcanada} BRISSON: NOTHING GOING ON WITH BRODEUR AND CANADIENS

While reports have surfaced over the last week on the possibility of Martin Brodeur joining the Montreal Canadiens, his agent Pat Brisson of CAA Sports says nothing is in the works.

"There's nothing going on right now when it comes to Montreal," Brisson told TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com on Thursday.

RDS hockey analyst and former Canadien Vincent Damphousse said this week that Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin met with Brisson in July to discuss the possibility of the future Hall of Fame goaltender as a fit, while Brodeur told QMI Agency last week that he would certainly be interested if the Canadiens approached him.

The future Hall of Famer and unrestricted free agent remains unsigned, but not having a new team at the start of training camp was something Brodeur and Brisson were prepared for.

"We knew all along we would have to be patient," Brisson explained. "Marty is prepared to wait this out, knowing that at some point a team may very well develop a need. Marty is in a good place. It's not like he's phoning me every 10 minutes. He's going to be patient."

Brodeur, who played all 21 of his NHL seasons with the New Jersey Devils, had a 19-14-6 record last season with a 2.51 goals-against average and .901 save percentage. The three-time Stanley Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist became a free agent on July 1 after playing out a two-year, $9 million contract.

"I believe that at one point in the near future a team will have the luxury to have Marty Brodeur," added Brisson. "While he is ready to exercise some patience, it will have to be the right fit and more importantly a chance to help a team win. His level of his competitive experience is extremely impressive. Someone will recognize it when the right time comes."
