Suspended wide receiver Josh Gordon might not be planning to spend his year on the sidelines of the NFL off the gridiron entirely.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Cleveland Browns receiver is exploring the possibility of playing the rest of the season in the Canadian Football League.

The CFL, however, says that teams in their league are not allowed to sign players under contract to NFL teams, even if they are suspended.

Gordon was banned by the National Football League for one year for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

The 23-year-old led the league with 1,646 receiving yards last season despite missing the first two games of the year for a failed drug test.  He also became the first player in NFL history to record consecutive 200-yard games.

Gordon would not be the first player to head north after being hit with a one-year suspension.

While a member of the Miami Dolphins, Ricky Williams signed with the Toronto Argonauts after being banned from the NFL for his fourth violation of the league's drug policy.

Gordon's CFL negotiation rights belong to the Calgary Stampeders, however, according to Browns beatwriter Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, the Browns will not allow Gordan to play in the CFL.
