The Winnipeg Jets agreed to terms with defenseman Ben Chiarot on a one-year, two-way contract worth $600,000, the team announced Wednesday.
Chiarot, 23, played in 65 games with St. John's of the American Hockey League last season, recording 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) and 96 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 21 postseason games to help St. John's reach the Calder Cup Finals with five points (two goals, three assists) and 16 penalty minutes.
The Hamilton, Ontario native played in his first NHL game last season for Winnipeg against the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 2.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Chiarot was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round of the 2009 draft.
