Calgary Flames goaltender Karri Ramo is expected to be out until after the Olympic break with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee sustained during the Flames' game Saturday against the Minnesota Wild.

Ramo left the game with 2:28 remaining in the first period.

"[Ramo] came at a TV timeout and he told me, 'Bob, I can't keep going,'" Flames coach Bob Hartley said Saturday. "Right away, we went to Reto. I went to see [Ramo] after the first period and he was sore. I don't think that it's major but obviously you never know. I'm not a doctor."

Ramo is 11-10-4 with a 2.68 goals-against average and .908 save percentage in 29 games. It's Ramo's first NHL season after playing the past four seasons with Avangard Omsk in the Kontinental Hockey League.

Reto Berra replaced Ramo on Saturday, and the Flames on Monday called up Joni Ortio from Abbotsford of the American Hockey League.

Berra, a 27-year-old rookie in his first North American season, is 7-14-2 with a 3.20 GAA and .891 save percentage in 24 games.

Ortio, 22, was a 2009 sixth-round draft pick (No. 171) skating in his first full North American season. In 25 AHL games he is 19-5-0 with a 2.08 GAA, .930 save percentage and two shutouts. He's second in the AHL in wins and third in GAA and save percentage.
