The Edmonton Oilers traded defenceman Ladislav Smid and goaltender Olivier Roy to the Calgary Flames on Friday in exchange for forward Roman Horak and goaltender Laurent Brossoit.
The Oilers also reached a verbal agreement on a one-year contract with goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, pending completion of the trade with the Flames.
The Philadelphia Flyers bought out of the final seven years of Bryzgalov's nine-year, $51-million contract in the off-season.
In 17 games with the Oilers this season, Smid has one goal and one assist with a minus 6 rating.
Smid was originally drafted in the first round, ninth overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
The 27-year-old Smid has three seasons remaining on his contract at $3.5 million per season.
