OTTAWA -- Canada's Christa Bortignon has earned one of the highest honours in masters track and field.
The 76-year-old from West Vancouver, B.C., who owns 14 world masters records, was named the World Masters Athletics (WMA) top female for 2013.
Bortignon, who competes in the 75-plus age group in several events including the 100 and 400 metres, 80-metre hurdles and heptathlon, set world records in seven different events in 2013.
She returned Monday from the world masters championship in Porto Alegre, Brazil with eight gold medals.
American Charles Allie, who competes in the 65-plus age category, won the 2013 male masters award.
Both will be presented with their awards in Monaco on Nov. 16.
