SHANGHAI, China -- Charles Hamelin's already found his top form after just one World Cup of short-track speedskating stop.
Hamelin won gold in the men's 1,000-metre event on Sunday, his second victory and fourth trip to the podium of the weekend.
Hamelin, from Levis, Que., led from start to finish to take gold in one minute 25.435 seconds. Dutch skater Niels Kerstholt (1:25.783) finished second, barely a blade length ahead of Han-Bin Lee (1:25.804) of South Korea.
Canada won bronze in the men's 5,000-metre relay final, with Hamelin, his brother Francois, Yellowknife's Michael Gilday and Olivier Jean of Lachenaie, Que., finishing in 6:47.962. The United States placed first in 6:47.605, followed by the Korean team in 6:47.754.
In women's competition, Korea's Suk Hee Shim earned her second win of the weekend, taking first place in the 1,000 metres in 1:31.259. Alang Kim, also from Korea, placed second (1:31.469), while China's Jianrou Li took third (1:31.544).
Marianne St-Gelais of Ste-Julie, Que., was fifth with a time of 1:31.996.
Korea won the women's 3,000-metre relay in 4:10.264, followed by China in 4:10.281 and Italy in 4:17.523. The Canadian team of St-Gelais, Edmonton's Jessica Gregg, Jessica Hewitt of Kamloops, B.C., and Gabrielle Williamson-Derraugh of Red Deer, Alta., was fourth in 4:21.707.
