CHUNGJU, South Korea — There was disappointment for Canada at the world rowing championships Thursday as Victoria's Patricia Obee finished fourth in the semifinal of the lightweight women's single.

Obee crossed the line in seven minutes 50.31 seconds, less than six seconds after first-place Austria. Obee will race in the B final of the event.

In the lightweight men's single, Nick Pratt of Kingston, Ont., finished fifth in 7:14.46, well off the pace of the French sculler who placed first in 7:01.77.

The Canadian men's quad also missed out on an appearance in the final. The team comprised of Matt Buie of Duntroon, Ont., Kevin Kowalyk of Winnipeg, David Wakulich of St. Catharines, Ont., and Mike Braithwaite of Duncan, B.C., finished sixth in their semi in 5:51.42. Croatia won in 5:41.56.
