CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Canada's Eugenie Bouchard beat a player ranked in the top 50 for the first time in her career Wednesday, defeating Britain's Laura Robson 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the second round of the Family Circle Cup.
The win is Bouchard's second over Robson, who is currently ranked 42nd in the world, after earning another three-set victory last season at the US$50,000 Osprey Challenger in Florida.
Bouchard, from Westmount, Que., will face world No. 9 Samantha Stosur of Australia on Thursday.
Bouchard has won five matches in Charleston after playing her way through qualifying this weekend to get a spot in the main draw. By reaching the third round, she has posted her best result to date at a WTA Premier event.
