Thanks for the feedback, guys.
I totally agree that the 'ideal' solution would skip the DTS re-encoding, and build instead some lossless multi-channel file. But unfortunately, since my hardware won't handle any such format, as Zoop said - I'm stuck with DTS.
Of course I could upgrade my hardware, but given that we mostly seem to agree my 68-year-old ears wouldn't hear the difference, I'm disinclined to spend the considerable $$$ on a major upgrade (even assuming there is a wi-fi streaming solution that can do this!).
I would never consider AC3 (its bit-rate is only about half that of DTS, isn't it?). Of course, if an AC3 encoder is available as freeware and someone doesn't have a DTS encoder, AC3 could be an option, though the least desirable one.
Anyway, whichever final file format you want, my batch files can be used simply by editing DTSgainAdj.bat to replace the DTS-encoding section with whatever multi-channel file encoding makes best use of your system.
I hope somebody else finds the process useful - I sure did!
Daniel
