Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla, the top player mentioned in trade rumors, is being held out of the lineup Wednesday night.
The Flames announced that the winger was a healthy scratch two hours before their game against the Colorado Avalanche.
Canadian network TSN has linked Iginla's name to the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings.
Scratching Iginla doesn't necessarily mean that a trade is imminent. It could be to make sure he doesn't get hurt before the April 3 deadline.
The Florida Panthers lost forwards Stephen Weiss and Kris Vesteeg to injuries recently, taking them off the trade market.
Iginla is the Flames' all-time leader in games, goals and points and would command a significant return toward a rebuilding movement if he is dealt.
He has not missed a game since the finale of the 2006-07 season, meaning his 441-game ironman streak would be ending.
The Flames said no further information would be provided on Iginla's situation for the moment.
