Not only did the Edmonton Oilers lose in heartbreaking fashion Monday night, but they lost their captain in the process.

Oilers coach Ralph Krueger announced after a 3-2 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks that forward Shawn Horcoff suffered a broken knuckle while blocking a shot during the second period.

"It got pushed right in," Krueger said of Horcoff's knuckle. "That'll be long-term.

"The glove opens up just a touch and it's not an injury that really is something that's due to some kind of contact of any sort. He was just playing hockey, blocking a shot. We're going to have to regroup quickly."

Horcoff, 34, has one goal and one assist in seven games. He has appeared in 771 NHL contests, all with the Oilers.

Oilers defenseman Mark Fistric is also listed as day-to-day after he attempted a hit on Vancouver's Mason Raymond but missed and collided with the boards at his own blue line. Fistric left the game and did not return.
