Vincent Trocheck continued to impress his new club on Saturday as the Plymouth Whalers downed the visiting Peterborough Petes 4-1 in Ontario Hockey League play.

The 19-year-old forward set up three goals and has recorded four goals and nine points in his last three games. In 10 appearances with Plymouth, since being acquired in a trade from the Saginaw Spirit on Jan. 10th, Trocheck has seven goals and 22 points. His 72 combined points in 45 contests is good for fourth in OHL scoring.

Mathew Mistele and Gianluca Curcuruto each scored twice for the Whalers (26-15-9), who stay one point ahead of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for first in the West Division.

Curcuruto, who earned the game's first star, has scored in back-to-back outings and produced 10 points in his last six games.

Nelson Armstrong scored the lone goal for the Petes (16-28-7) and it was the first of his OHL career.

Both goaltenders were solid, and tested often, as Alex Nedeljkovic made 38 saves for the win and Michael Giugovaz stopped 54 shots in a losing cause.

Plymouth went 1 for 3 on the power play while Peterborough failed to score on either of its chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Sudbury 7, Erie 2; Niagara 4, Mississauga 1; Belleville 8, Sarnia 3; Sault Ste. Marie 5, Saginaw 4 (SO) and London 3, Owen Sound 0.

At Plymouth, Mich., Curcuruto opened the scoring 35 seconds into the game and Mistele added two more goals before the first period was through to make it 3-0 for the Whalers.

Curcuruto made it 4-0 only 41 seconds into the second period as Plymouth put a combined 45 shots against Guigovas in the first 40 minutes.

Armstrong ended Nedeljkovic's shutout attempt 3:34 into the third period.
