NEED TO KNOW
There might not be a more intimidating place to get between the pipes on a regular basis than in Montreal for the Canadiens. The history of the club, the lineage of superstar goaltenders that have come before him and the pressure from media and fans make Montreal a place that is not for all types of netminders. It takes someone with tremendous skill and a calm demeanor to put on the Canadiens sweater and tend goal there, someone exactly like Carey Price. After a season in 2011-12 that many Canadiens fans would like to forget, Price has reminded the faithful in Montreal early this season why he is widely considered one of the top netminders in the league. The native of Anahim Lake B.C., who was drafted 5th overall by the Habs in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, has settled into his role as the goalie in Montreal and is clearly the foundation on which the Canadiens are building their team for the future. With his stellar play so far in the early stages of this abbreviated 2012-13 season, combined with strong play from his teammates, Price once again has the Habs faithful believing that, with a goaltender of this caliber, their team can make a push for the pinnacle of the Eastern Conference and ultimately compete for the Stanley Cup, something the team has failed to do since the 1993 season.
- Carey led the Habs to a sweep of their traditional Super Bowl weekend games at home, defeating the Buffalo Sabres 6-1 on Saturday afternoon and then followed that up with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday
- He has been between the pipes for 7 of the 8 games the Habs have played this season, posting a 6-1 record
- Carey is hot at the moment, going 2-0-0, 1.00, .969 in last the past 2 games
