The Winnipeg Sun points out that as a guy born and raised in the state of New York, stepping inside Madison Square Garden always conjures up a lot of memories for Zach Bogosian.
The Winnipeg Jets defenceman grew up in tiny Massena, N.Y. — which is roughly six-and-a-half hours from New York City — and recognizes the mystique found inside The Garden.
"One of the only channels in Massena was the MSG channel so I used to watch some of (the New York Rangers) games growing up," said Bogosian, who fought current Rangers captain Ryan Callahan in his first NHL game at the fabled facility. "As far as MSG goes, there's not too many venues that are as big as that. It's a cool feeling to go out there and play.
"There's so much history in it. So many boxing matches, hockey games, basketball games. It's a special venue."
The Jets (8-9-1) face the Rangers (8-7-2) on Tuesday night and will be trying to keep the rowdy Madison Square Garden crowd out of it, as best they can.
"The name will always be a historic icon in American sports," said Jets forward Eric Tangradi. "To be able to say you've played here and had a few games in this arena, will be something special.
"The atmosphere is special. When I came in here with Pittsburgh, we've had some good battles and I'm looking forward to my first one as a Jet here."
