The Toronto Maple Leafs assigned defenceman Jake Gardiner to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old made his season debut last Wednesday after being out of action since December 8 with a concussion that he suffered during the lockout while playing with the Marlies.
He also played in Thursday's loss to the New York Islanders before being sent back to the Marlies on Friday. He was recalled two days later during the AHL All-Star break but did not play in Tuesday's overtime win in Buffalo.
Gardiner had 17 points win 22 games for the Marlies before the injury. He failed to record a point in the two games he played with the Leafs this season.
