Jake Smith made 19 saves for his first Ontario Hockey League win as the Brampton Battalion defeated the Windsor Spitfires 4-1 on Friday.
The 17-year-old rookie was making his third start of the season and was less than seven minutes away from recording his first shutout before Windsor finally scored.
"I can't say I wasn't thinking about the shutout in the third period, but I'm just happy to get that first win. It's a pretty awesome feeling," said Smith.
Connor Jarvis scored his first career OHL goal for the Battalion (3-4-4) and Blake Clarke, Jamie Lewis and Barclay Goodrow added the others.
Brady Vail scored the lone goal for the Spitfires (5-3-3), who lost in regulation for the first time in five outings.
