The Ottawa Citizen recalls how Binghamton wasn't prepared last Friday against Hershey, falling behind 3-0 early in an eventual 3-2 defeat.
On Saturday, they blew a 5-0 lead after goaltender Robin Lehner was ejected for fighting Syracuse netminder Riku Helenius, ultimately losing 6-5 in overtime with Nathan Lawson finishing up in the Binghamton net.
Binghamton rebounded Sunday against Hershey for a 2-1 overtime victory, in which Lehner was "unbelievable," according to coach Luke Richardson.
"We gave him the opportunity to return and he ran with it. I think he felt bad (about Saturday). You could hear him in the dressing room. He was very verbal before the game, telling everyone how important the game was. It was a big win. We were banged up."
Lehner has a 3-1 record, with a goals against average of 1.32 and a .954 save percentage. The showdown with Ben Bishop, who finished the 2011-12 season with the Ottawa Senators, will have to wait a while. Bishop was working his way into game shape when he caught a virus and Richardson isn't going to rush him into the net.
"He's on some antibiotics," said Richardson. "Maybe with the move and getting into the hotel and maybe not eating the best, he's run down a bit. Hopefully he can get a couple of practices in soon."
