Bruno Spengler of St-Hippolyte, Que won his first ever DTM title on Sunday after beating out championship leader Gary Paffett at Hockenheim for a BMW victory.

Spengler, 29, took BMW's first title in over 20 years by a mere four points.

He earned his season-high fourth win of the season, while Paffett finished second in the 42-lap race.

Spengler became the first Canadian be crowned champion of a major international professional racing circit since Paul Tracy won the 2003 Champ Car title and the first to win a European-based series since Jacques Villeneuve won the Formula One world championship in 1997.
