Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Buck Pierce was on the field Tuesday running the first-team offence, which is a positive sign that he's on the mend.
But the 30-year-old Pierce, who sustained a concussion on Sept. 29, has not been medically cleared to play.
More appointments are scheduled for Pierce on Tuesday but if he can't play against Toronto Friday night, head coach Tim Burke said he would lean towards starting Joey Elliott.
"If the medical staff releases (Pierce) to play, he will be the starter," said Burke. "Right now, it's who gives us our best chance to win. Despite our (4-11) record, we're still in the race. We know we have to win out."
The Blue Bombers could still make the playoffs if they win their final three games and the Eskimos loses its final three contests.
