{allcanada} Morgan Header Gives USA Late Victory Over Canada

Alex Morgan's extra-time header gives USA a 4-3 victory over Canada to send the defending champions to the gold medal game. Canada will play for bronze.

Just 30 minutes before the end of the second extra-time period, Morgan found the room to direct a free header over the head of Canadian keeper Erin McLoed to give the American side the victory.

It was their first lead of the game.

A free kick in the Canadian box awarded to USA, followed by a handball penalty call, allowed Wambach a chance from the penalty spot that she did not miss, leveling the score at 3-3 in the 80th minute.

Seven minutes before the penalty call, Sinclair's third goal of the game came in the 73rd minute and once again put Canada into the lead.

Megan Rapinoe has scored twice for USA, she picked up her second strike of the game in the 70th minute when she found space unmarked and hammered the ball off the post and into the net.

Just three minutes earlier, Canadian forward Melissa Tancredi found Sinclair with a nice cross in the 67th minute to briefly put Canada ahead 2-1.

After the half, Rapinoe fired a corner towards the Canadian net in the 54th minute that the Canadian defenders as well as keeper Erin McLeod were able to get to before it went in the net, leveling the score.

In the 22nd minute, Tancredi threaded a ball through to Sinclair, who calmly stepped around the last American defender and fired the ball past keeper Hope Solo to open the scoring.

Sinclair and Wambach are now tied for second all-time with 143 international goals.
