Analog recording is data compression (information loss). So is 2-channel
recording generally, whether analog or 196/24 digital. So is any
recording, really. It's more about what level of information loss we can
tolerate, and what euphonic distortions we prefer.

Except, there isn't any rigorous proof for that...which is odd, given the
fervor with which it is believed to be true. You'd think it would be easy
to demonstrate. It's not.
