VANCOUVER -- Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Omar Salgado has suffered a fractured right foot while on international duty with the U.S. under-20 team.
The club said Thursday that the 18-year-old Salgado suffered the injury during a 4-2 friendly against Uruguay in Montevideo on Wednesday.
"We are disappointed to hear about Omar's injury," said Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie in a statement. "While it is a setback for him, we are confident that he will have a full recovery."
The Texas native appeared as a first-half substitute in the friendly before coming out of the match with the injury in the 82nd minute.
Salgado has started five of his six MLS appearances for Vancouver this year while registering one assist.
