{allcanada} Report: Jays talking Guthrie with Rockies

The Toronto Blue Jays have a discussed a trade with the Colordao Rockies that would net them starter Jeremy Guthrie, according to a report on Foxsports.com.

Citing major league sources, Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi reported Monday any potential deal surrounding the 33-year-old Guthrie would likely involve the Blue Jays assuming "a significant portion" of his remaining salary – just under $5 million – in exchange for a prospect.

That prospect could be double-A first baseman Mike McDade, the article suggests, while adding that the Rockies have held talks surrounding Guthrie with other clubs and the Blue Jays continue to pursue other pitching options as well.

In 11 starts with the Rockies in 2012, the right-handed Guthrie has posted a 7.02 ERA and 1.831 WHIP in 59 innings with 30 strikeouts and 23 walks. He has also given up a NL-high 15 home runs.

But as you mighty expect, Guthrie's numbers are better away from hitter-friendly Coors Field in Denver. His road ERA is 4.70 (30 innings) compared to 9.53 (29 innings) at home.

He was acquired by Colorado in a Feb. 6 trade with the Orioles that sent right-handers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom to Baltimore. Guthrie is eligible for salary arbitration at the end of 2012 and can become a free agent at the conclusion of 2013.

As for McDade, the 23-year-old has 11 home runs, 38 RBIs and a line of .304/.385/.486/.871 with 30 walks and 50 strikeouts in 65 games with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

He was selected by the Blue Jays in the 6th round of the 2007 amateur draft.
