Former Los Angeles Kings captain Wayne Gretzky will drop the puck at a ceremonial faceoff before Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals on Monday, according to the Winnipeg Free Press.
The last time the Kings were in the National Hockey League's championship series the Great One, who currently lives in Los Angeles with his family and is a staple among the city's sports scene, was the team's leader on the ice.
The Kings are coming off a second consecutive 2-1 overtime win over the New Jersey Devils and lead the best of seven series 2-0.
Last week Gretzky told HOCKEY CENTRAL at Noon on Sportsnet 590 The Fan that he believed this series would be a long one, but if the Kings can win the next two games at home they will sweep the Devils and hoist the Cup for the first time in franchise history.
Game 3 takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Monday beginning at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
