The Blue Jays farm system endured an inordinate number of headlines in May, but so little of that print went towards the bright lights of the team's future.
With Adam Lind's demotion from the Jays and Vladimir Guerrero's seemingly-imminent arrival in Toronto, many Jays fans are keeping an eye on the minors. But there's much more happening down there for Jays fans to concern themselves with.
The system will undoubtedly get another shot in the arm with Monday's MLB Draft, but before the system reloads, here's a look at some of the top names in the Jays' system through May.
Anthony Gose (CF, 21)
Acquired from Houston in exchange for Brett Wallace (07/29/10).
2012 stats: 55 GP / .302 BA / 3 HR / 27 RBI / .811 OPS / 24-29 SB-A (Las Vegas, AAA)
Future Outlook: The bad news for Gose is that he had his 16-game hit streak snapped on Saturday. That's about where the bad news ends. Gose had an absolutely scorching May hitting .364 with three dingers, 17 RBI and 16 steals. He's apparently widened his batting stance, which is believed to be the source of the turn-around. The 51s have also started giving him time in left field, suggesting that the team may want to throw him into the years-long positional battle there between Eric Thames and Travis Snider.
Adeiny Hechavarria (SS, 23)
Signed as an International free agent from Cuba (04/13/10).
2012 stats: 52 GP / .324 BA / 4 HR / 39 RBI / .840 OPS (Las Vegas, AAA)
Future Outlook: If not for Gose's extraordinary May output, it might be Hechavarria grabbing the headlines amongst the Jays future lights. He hit .318 in May with three home runs and 16 RBI in the month and is showing no signs of slowing, having posted five multi-hit games over his past eight outings.
Aaron Sanchez (RHP, 19)
Selected by Toronto in the first round of the 2010 MLB Draft.
2012 stats: 5-0, 38 IP, 0.47 ERA, 44K, 0.92 WHIP (Lansing, A)
Future Outlook: When the worst thing you can say about a pitcher's month is "he finally gave up an earned run" things are progressing just fine. Sanchez saw his outings lengthened in May, going four innings in all but one start for the month instead of the three he was tossing in April. The team is keeping a close eye on him and continues to pair him with fellow ace Justin Nicolino rotating starts every fifth game.
Travis d'Arnaud (C, 23)
Acquired from Philadelphia in exchange for Roy Halladay (12/16/09).
2012 stats: 48 GP / .322 BA / 12 HR / 36 RBI / .956 OPS (Las Vegas, AAA)
Future Outlook: May was kind to the Jays' prized catching prospect as he thrived in the hitter-friendly PCL. The 23-year-old posted a .322 average clubbing 10 homers and 23 RBI in 25 games. J.P. Arencibia's huge May doesn't help speed d'Arnaud's path to the majors, but d'Arnaud's MVP season last year has been forgotten by no one and he'll get promoted when the team feels he's topped out in Triple-A.
Justin Nicolino (LHP, 20)
Selected by Toronto in the second round of the 2010 MLB Draft.
2012 stats: 2-0 / 39 IP / 0.92 ERA / 37 K / 0.923 WHIP (Lansing, A)
Future Outlook: Paired up with Sanchez, the only major difference in output this year for Nicolino has been one so-so start against Bowling Green back on May 10. However, he rebounded nicely and has not surrendered a run (earned or unearned) in his last three outings holding his opposition to a .143 average over that span.

Noah Syndergaard (RHP, 19) – Selected by Toronto in the first round of the 2010 MLB Draft.

Asher Wojciechowski (RHP, 23) – Selected by Toronto in the first round of the 2010 MLB Draft.
