Mike Morreale will be named the new president of the Canadian Football League Players Association, sportsnet.ca has learned.
An announcement will be made on Wednesday confirming the appointment. Morreale moves up from his current post as the PA's director of marketing and business development.
He played 12 years in the CFL, splitting his time between the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The lanky receiver was voted the CFL's top Canadian player in 1998 while with the Ticats. The following year he was voted the Most Outstanding Canadian player in the Grey Cup with the Cats.
He officially retired in August, 2007 and gradually began working with the CFLPA in a marketing capacity following eight years as a player rep.
Morreale replaces Stu Laird, who had been the CFLPA president since 2001.
