Re: [SurroundSound] Asus D2X sampling rate query

I've seen this same issue on ComputerAudiophile before.  I believe it was a different card.  I believe even after the poster found the driver he couldn't get it to play natively.  What your player does to the file is largely up to you.  If you use Jriver for example you should be able to specify which sample rate it will default to should it not be able to play 88.2.  I've also heard (I CANNOT confirm this--I just remember seeing it and cannot vouch for accuracy) that without an ASIO driver or Wasapi enabled you can't get 88.2.  I may be very wrong there.  However, should your card not support that sample rate there should be options in a capable media player to determine which sample rate it will default to.  I had problems before with this when I used to use a windows machine.  I tried to play 88.2 sources and mistakenly thought they were 96 because my soundcard  and/or windows wouldn't support that sample rate.  It reported the album as 24/96 although it wasn't.  When I got a mac I realized that I'd been upsampling without realizing it.  FWIW it did slightly affect the SQ.  When I got an Oppo I was pretty surprised in the difference.  I shudder to mention the disc.  OK OK...it was In the Zone...miss Brittney...I have to say I can't stand her but I love this album!  Cheesy but good...

AFAIK it does handle the sampling rate as all modern DACs do for more info on ASUS D Series chack here - you may only have deriver issue as I regularly play back 88k2: http://brainbit.wordpress.com/driver-signature-possible-solutions-discussions-page/

Hi guys,.
Ive just made an impulse purchase yesterday of an AsusD2X
I had done some research but hadn't realised that it didn't handle
88.2/176.4 sampling rate.
Presently I use foobar to play my sacd isofiles and I use the analog
outofmy current sound card(audigy 2) straight to my logitech speakers
My question is how will the sound card handle a 88.2 iso file. Will it
up sample it to 96khz, down sample to 48, or will I just hear nothing.
I haven't opened the box yet so it can go back and I never plan on
using it for anything other than driving the logitechs by analog for
Music/films in my dining room.
