EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oil Kings weren't going to let one post-season loss affect their push towards a league championship.
Martin Gernat scored twice as the Oil Kings defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors 4-1 on Friday in Western Hockey League playoff action.
The series-clinching victory came one game after Moose Jaw ended Edmonton's 22-game winning streak, which dated back to the regular season.
"We had a much better effort tonight," said Oil Kings' head coach Derek Laxdal. "Our guys did an outstanding job of responding from the game in Moose Jaw. I thought after the first period (Moose Jaw) really started to push. We got into some penalty trouble, but our power play and our penalty kill was outstanding tonight."
Edmonton won the best-of-seven Eastern Conference final in five games.
Michael St. Croix and Curtis Lazar also scored for the Oil Kings while Griffin Reinhart and Tyler Maxwell chipped in with two assists each.
