BOUCHERVILLE, Que. -- Moncton Wildcats left-winger Olivier Daoust was indefinitely suspended on Thursday while the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League investigates his hit from behind on Saint John Sea Dogs defenceman Jason Seed.
Daoust skated hard into the Saint John zone on the forecheck and put a crushing hit on Seed in the Sea Dogs' 2-1 victory over the rival Wildcats on Tuesday night.
The 19-year-old was given a major penalty and a game misconduct for boarding. He also fought Saint John's Ian Saab after the hit.
Seed got up from the hit but was visibly shaken as he skated to the bench.
The six-foot-three 215-pound Daoust will not be allowed to play until QMJHL disciplinarian Raymond Bolduc completes a review of the incident and decides on the length of the suspension.
Daoust has three goals, two assists and 66 penalty minutes in 26 games this season.
Earlier this week, the league suspended Boisbriand-Blainville Armada defenceman Nikita Kolesnikovs for two games for a hit from behind.
