Montreal Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov didn't accompany the team to San Jose for Thursday's contest against the Sharks, but head coach Jacques Martin said that he will rejoin the team Friday in Los Angeles.
Markov stayed behind in Anaheim following Wednesday's 4-1 setback to the Ducks. A source close to him said he stayed behind to undergo a "medical assessment."
Martin added that it's unlikely he will play Saturday against the Kings, as he has not been on the ice for two days.
The blueliner and power-play quarterback hasn't played since re-injuring his right knee on Nov. 13, 2010, he was forced to undergo a second reconstructive surgery less than a month later.
Markov did practice on Monday, but did not suit up for the game against the Ducks.
