PORTLAND, Ore. -- Ty Rattie scored four goals and added an assist as the Portland Winterhawks cruised to a 6-2 victory over the road-weary Swift Current Broncos in the Western Hockey League on Sunday.
With 1:23 left in regulation, the teams engaged in a line brawl, with all 12 players -- including Portland goaltender Mac Carruth and Swift Current netminder Austin Smith -- dropping the gloves.
Referee Trevor Hanson handed out 66 minutes of penalties for the melee, plus 10 game misconducts.
Rattie had a hat trick in a five-goal first-period outburst for the Winterhawks (17-9-2). Rattie is now tied with Emerson Etem for the league lead in goals with 27. Sven Bartschi collected four assists for Portland.
Nic Petan and Joseph Morrow also scored in the first period for Portland, which led 5-1 after 20 minutes. Morrow, a defenceman, has scored in five consecutive games.
Adam Lowry scored in the first period for Swift Current (11-14-3) and Ryon Moser scored the Broncos' other goal in the second.
Carruth stopped 40 shots to earn the win for Portland, while Smith made 31 saves for Swift Current. Carruth also denied Josh Derko on a penalty shot in the second period.
The Broncos were playing their third game in three nights as part of a five-game swing through the WHL's Western Division. Swift Current is 1-3 on the trip, and wraps it up with a game in Seattle on Tuesday.
