TORONTO -- World championship finalist Sinead Russell of Oakville, Ont., won two more gold medals on Saturday at the Canada Cup swimming competition with victories in the 50-metre freestyle and 100-metre backstroke.
Russell, also a double winner on Friday, took the 50 freestyle in 25.92 seconds edging Pan Am Games team member Caroline Lapierre-Lemire of Trois-Rivieres, Que., second in 26.02. Marie-Pier Ratelle, also of Trois-Rivieres, was third in 26.28.
In the women's 100 backstroke, Russell prevailed again in a meet record one minute 0.25 seconds with Genevieve Cantin of Quebec City second and Samantha Cheverton of Pointe-Claire, Que., third.
Other winners in women's competition were: Mariya Chekanovych of Burnaby, B.C., in the 50 breaststroke, Katerine Savard of Quebec City in the 200 butterfly and Cheverton in the 400 freestyle. It was a second gold for both Chekanovych and Russell.
Tobias Oriwol of Toronto is up to three victories after taking the 200 IM. Other winners included Warren Barnes of Toronto in the 50 breaststroke, Octavian Petre of Montreal in the 50 freestyle, Pascal Wollach of Calgary in the 100 backstroke, Zack Chetrat of Oakville in the 200 fly and Frank Despond of Toronto in the 400 freestyle.
The Etobicoke Swim Club won both the men's and women's 4x200 freestyle relays.
